From Waste to Fuel: SIDSA Colombia Project Sets Sail

Colombia's 100,000-ton-per-year alternative fuel demonstration line is operating efficiently! SIDSA's technology provides critical support, helping transform waste into green resources.

As the fourth-largest economy in Latin America, Colombia is known not only for its coffee, flowers, and mineral resources but also for its unique dual coastlines (connecting the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean), giving it significant strategic importance. However, like many developing countries, Colombia faces severe challenges in managing municipal solid waste. Currently, about 80% of the country's waste is landfilled, creating enormous environmental pressure. It is even projected that within the next five years, landfills in all municipalities may reach full capacity.

It is against this backdrop that SIDSA and Geocycle have successfully commissioned a 100,000-ton-per-year waste-to-alternative-fuel demonstration line in Colombia. This project converts municipal solid waste into fuel usable by cement plants, effectively alleviating landfill pressure and achieving the dual goals of "carbon reduction" and "waste elimination." The key to the project's success lies in the pre-treatment process, where the selection of crushers directly determines the outcome of the entire demonstration line. Only with crushing equipment that offers strong processing capabilities and stable operation can the annual target of converting 100,000 tons of waste be reliably achieved.

In this project, the core equipment, the SRF 2800 fine crusher, demonstrated significant advantages. It boasts strong processing capacity, uniform and stable output, diverse drive options, flexible blade configurations, and excellent wear resistance. It efficiently handles complex materials, enhancing system stability and adaptability while keeping maintenance costs low. This makes it a critical asset in large-scale solid waste resource recovery initiatives. The successful operation of this project provides a replicable circular economy solution for the Latin American region.

Beyond Colombia, SIDSA has successfully commissioned over 1,000 projects worldwide! From India's high heat and humidity and Thailand's continuous rainy seasons to the Maldives' high-salinity marine environments; from the drought and strong sandstorms of Morocco's deserts to the extreme cold and significant temperature fluctuations in Inner Mongolia's grasslands, SIDSA's solutions operate stably across diverse climates and complex material conditions, providing reliable localized solutions for global customers.

At every project site, SIDSA's innovative technology provides solid support. Addressing the complexity and high costs associated with traditional equipment’s power and control unit installation, SID innovatively introduced a highly integrated containerized power and control unit. This unit pre-integrates core components such as hydraulic stations and electrical control systems into a standard container, greatly simplifying installation, eliminating the need for a separate equipment room, and significantly saving space and costs. Upon arrival at the site, the unit only requires connection to power lines to quickly commence operation, substantially shortening the project timeline and enhancing deployment efficiency and flexibility. It is particularly suited for environmental projects in complex environments or those requiring rapid commissioning.

With innovative technologies and a legacy of over 1,000 successful projects worldwide, SID remains committed to advancing solid waste resource recovery and supporting low-carbon transition initiatives across the globe. Going forward, the company will continue to deepen international collaboration, delivering Swiss-quality products and services to the global market, promoting the development of circular economy supply chains, and contributing its solutions and expertise to the future of environmental governance.
