SID × Saudi IFAT – Solving the Challenges of Municipal Solid Waste Pre‑Treatment

SIDSA attended Saudi International Environmental Expo (IFAT Saudi Arabia 2026)

Release Time:

From January 26 to 28, 2026, the inaugural Saudi International Environmental Expo (IFAT Saudi Arabia 2026) was grandly launched at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center. As the largest and most influential environmental industry event in the Middle East and North Africa region, we were honored to participate. Against the backdrop of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing advancement of “Vision 2030” and the “Green Saudi” initiative, the shift of municipal solid waste (MSW) from simple landfill to efficient resource recovery emerged as one of the most prominent topics at this exhibition.

Market Observation
Saudi Arabia’s Solid Waste Treatment in a “Transition Phase”

Occupying 80% of the Arabian Peninsula, much of Saudi Arabia’s territory is covered by desert, with year‑round high temperatures and arid conditions. As the only G20 member and the largest economy in the Middle East, the country is undergoing a dramatic transformation from a traditional “oil kingdom” to a diversified industrial power through “Vision 2030.” However, rapid urbanization and massive population growth have also brought unprecedented challenges to this desert nation.

Over the four‑day exhibition, we experienced firsthand the urgent demand for environmental equipment in the Saudi market. With the implementation of “Saudi Vision 2030,” local requirements for the treatment of municipal solid waste, scrap plastics, and general solid waste are shifting from extensive landfilling to resource‑oriented utilization.

On‑site, we received multiple groups of professional clients from Riyadh municipality and large local recycling enterprises. Discussions centered on topics such as “MSW resource‑recovery solutions” and “the stability of hydraulic systems in high‑temperature environments.” In response to these practical questions, we provided rigorous answers based on hands‑on project experience.

Municipal solid waste in Saudi Arabia is complex in composition and often heavily mixed with sand, dust, and hard foreign materials. Achieving resource recovery requires addressing local project pain points: how to ensure uniform particle size under high‑intensity continuous operation and effectively remove non‑shreddable materials. We introduced SID’s tailored solutions accordingly.

For municipal solid waste pre‑treatment, the XLC4500, for example, stands out for its rugged durability, long service life, low operating and maintenance costs, and wide applicability. With a capacity of up to 60 tons of MSW per hour, it effectively opens bags and breaks down oversized materials, creating optimal conditions for downstream refining steps such as magnetic separation and air classification.

The equipment’s hydraulic drive system and intelligent overload‑protection mechanism ensure continuous, stable output even under harsh operating conditions.

Material transfer is equally critical. Our belt conveyors embody “process aesthetics” through rigorous European design.

Engineered for complex conditions, they feature multiple cleaning scrapers to effectively prevent material damage to rollers, ensuring sustained safety and stability. They are specifically built for handling various types of solid materials.

Combined with easy installation and minimal‑maintenance characteristics, they are not only efficient conveying devices but also a robust “artery” that guarantees the long‑term operation of the entire resource‑recovery line.

Conveying and shredding alone are not enough – to improve material purity, the screening stage is where the real test lies. This time, we highlighted two key “sorting performers.”

The Air Separator is essential for enhancing purity. Utilizing airflow, it accurately separates “light materials” such as plastics and paper from “heavy materials” like stones and metals. The settling chamber operates under negative pressure to prevent dust from escaping, and intake volume, feed rate, and airflow angle are all adjustable.

To further improve the quality of the finished material, the Disc Screen strictly controls particle size in municipal solid waste. Its uniquely staggered screen openings and high‑speed rotating discs create intense material agitation, enabling efficient screening.

Moving forward, we will continue to provide the Middle East market with pre‑treatment equipment and services that stand the test of time, supporting the region’s solid waste management in steadily progressing from “harmless disposal” to “resource recovery.” Through every meticulous delivery and every timely after‑sales service, we aim to establish SIDSA as a trusted partner for Middle Eastern clients in the field of solid waste pre‑treatment.

Has Waste Sorting, a Hot Topic from a Few Years Ago, Suddenly "Cooled Down"?

Back in 2019, when Shanghai first implemented mandatory waste sorting, the entire Chinese internet was baffled by "dry" and "wet" waste. Yet, just a few years later, the topic seems to have faded from public discourse. It's not that we've forgotten, nor that the policies have been halted. The reality is that China's waste treatment technology has quietly achieved an incredible, unforeseen victory.
